What Drinkware Distributors Can Learn from this Custom Cupholder Attachment for Giant Water Bottles

It seems like every week, social media at large decides what the hottest new water bottle trend will be. And, just like that, we start seeing these water bottles everywhere from the gym, the office, and in car cupholders.

But, what do you do if you’re the maker of the hot new water bottle, but your water bottle doesn’t fit in a cupholder? Do you cut your losses (and maybe your fame short)?

No, you get creative, which is exactly what the drinkware brand Frank Green did when it’s big water bottles didn’t fit in cupholders.

Like most things these days, the idea popped up on TikTok, with some users creating a hack involving PVC pipe. But, Frank Green made an official version to lengthen its water bottle’s fame and solve the issue its customers faced.

The cupholder is 11.4 cm by 7.5 cm, is made from silicone, and fits in an average sized cupholder.

Frank Green designers started working on it after receiving a “groundswell” of emails from customers about the bottle not fitting in their cupholders.

“We’re constantly looking for innovative ways to extend the Frank Green experience,” company founder Ben Young told Smart Company. “We realized a lot of people spend time in their cars and, as it turns out, people have been loving the emotional support from our water bottles. We just needed to do it … it’s a real natural extension.”

It’s an accessory for an accessory. Most importantly, it creates longevity for a product that might be a branded favorite for an end-user. The best promotional products solve a need. It doesn’t have to be complex or require a lot of fancy materials. It can just be something made for one very specific need. In this case, it also prolongs the use of the water bottle, since they have a special cupholder mold for that bottle. The end-user now also sees the brand as a problem-solver.

Without it, the end-user might ditch that bottle if it doesn’t fit in with their daily routine.

It also demonstrates how a drinkware promotion can include more than just a cup or a water bottle. Cupholders, straws, carrying cases, cleaning kits, all of these can be paired with a good water bottle to round out the promotional campaign and experience.
